My original “A Tour Of Detroit’s Ghetto” video just hit 500k views! Thank you to all those who support me, and I want to let you all know that I will be working on Part 4 very soon, so check back often! I will be filming another Detroit ghetto video this winter, so look for it sometime early 2010. Detroit’s ghetto is so vast, I could probably film 20 more of these videos and still not run out of new and original footage.
This was aired on CBC March 30th, 2009. It shows how bad things are in the city of Detroit right now. Thanks to cherifa123 for sending me the link to the video on google video, which I was then able to download and upload on Youtube.
These are the main points that I retained from watching this video:
-A man who hunts raccoons and sells the meat to make a living.
-120 square kilometers of the city are vacant, an area larger than than city of Vancouver.
-22% unemployment(which is now actually around 29%).
-Homes selling for $1.
-Median home price is $6000 and falling.
-Wild animals are moving back into the city… pheasants, coyotes, even beavers.
In another video that can be seen on CBC’s website, they state that 40% of the downtown area is vacant. This is exactly why I say that most of Detroit is ghetto, numbers don’t lie.
Hello everyone! When I posted my original “A Tour Of Detroit’s Ghetto” video on Youtube nearly 3 years ago, I had no idea it would be approaching half a million views as of today. In comparison to other videos on Youtube, it’s really not that impressive, but given the subject matter, I am surprised so many people have found it as interesting as I have.
It’s a touchy subject to some, but for many it’s an eye opener… even to lifelong residents residing only a few miles away…many do not realize the extent of Detroit’s, um, “situation”. I do not claim to be an expert on the city by any means. I am just a regular guy who grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, who was shocked that such a place existed only 5 miles from home, and decided to film it.
First and foremost, here are my 3 original videos featuring the ghetto of Detroit:
The first video was filmed in 2002 and 2003, before I moved to Florida in 2004. Now, my only opportunities to film more Detroit videos come when I visit my friends and family in the Detroit area for vacation, whenever that happens to be (not nearly often enough). Part 2 was filmed in December 2006, and part 3 in December 2007. As of right now it appears that I will be going to Detroit for Christmas this year, and there is a very good chance that I will film part 4, so be on the lookout for that!
